When you’re a maid of honour, you have two main responsibilities. Make sure the bride is happy at all time and plan an amazing bachelorette party.  She’s probably going to spend months planning the perfect wedding and will need to let her down down. So it’s your job to make it a party to remember for all the right reasons. So to give you a helping hand here’s a useful guide that will tell you what to do and what to avoid.

Do: Ask the bride for ideas

Unless she has specifically asked for it to be a surprise, ask the bride in question what kind of party she would like. The last thing you want to do is plan something she is not going to enjoy. No two brides are the same and will enjoy different things. Try to get some indication from her whether she wants a casual affair or something over the top and extravagant. This will make it far easier for you to plan the bachelorette party of her dreams and helps you organise suitable activities for the event.

Do: Get in touch with the other guests

Your bride will probably give you a guest list of all the people she wants to invite to her bachelorette party. Get their contact information or add them on social media to keep them up to date with the plans. Depending on what you are planning, they may need to get time off work or organise childcare. Knowing who can and cannot come will also make it easier for you to plan the event more efficiently. So try and get a response from each guest as soon as possible.

Don’t: Leave everything to the last minute

Leaving the party planning to the last minute could be a recipe for disaster and spoil the bride to be’s special night. So try to get organised and plan everything ahead of time. It’s never too early to start making some arrangements and getting ideas. Plus you may need to give a substantial amount of time to reserve tables, hire rooms and organise transport. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, ask the other bridesmaids or friends attending the wedding to help you out.

Don’t: Make it like any other day

One of the main things you want to avoid is making the bachelorette party feel like any other day. This is a celebration of the bride to be’s upcoming wedding and gives her a chance to share her excitement with her friends. So going to the cinema or for a drink isn’t going to cut it. Even if she want a low-key party, make her feel extra special with some finishing touches. You could rent a party bus or make some personalised cupcakes. Or you could organise an activity she’s always wanted to try or get her to wear a crown. This will give the party more meaning and show her how much you know her.

Having such an enormous responsibility can be nerve wracking but knowing what to do and what not to can is always helpful. Just make sure the bachelorette party you organise reflects the bride’s style and personality and you can’t go wrong.
